When I run msconfig on my winxp desktop and click on the startup tab, i see
the following file and can not determine what it is and how to get rid of
it. Any assistance would be appreciated.

* frhohk - located in the system32 directory

Surprisingly, when I do a google on that file, absolutely no matches are
found.

If Google turns up no data, then you can try to interrogate the
module itself. Use Explorer and locate the module. Right Click
on it's icon - From the context menu, left Click Properties.
Click the Version (TAB). Most reputable vendors will include
data such as Version, etc.
That's still no guarantee of authenticity, but might help to run
down where it came from or which application it belongs to.
**You can also get details by simply placing your mouse
pointer over the module for a second or so and a small
details box should appear with limited properties data.

Run

Ad Aware SE 1.05
Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.3
CDShredder

Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 (careful)

That file may be consider spyware.

OK. Thanks for all of the feedback so far. Below are my results to the
suggestions:

1) Spybot did not find this file
2) It does not physically show up in the system32 folder for me to get
properties on it even though msconfig says it is located in the system32
folder. I have chosen the option to view all hidden files and i have alaso
searched the whole drive for this file...no luck.
3) Ad Aware SE does not find this file either.
4) I also ran TrenMicro online and no luck there
5) No luck with Mcafee Virus Scan
6) I am very hesitant to run anything with Microsoft and Beta in the same
phrase so I did not run MS Antispyware Beta 1.
7) Processlibrary.com returned no info on this file

Still scratching my head....:-(

The startup list in MSConfig can and often does show items that no
longer exist because there are still referneces to them in the registry.
Just keep it unchecked and don't worry about it.

I believe you have the same problem as one of my client's has -
"invisible exe files"
In his case, we know it was caused by a version of Cool Web
Search.
Many good, knowlegable people have worked with me on this one
without any success, if I do manage to resolve it, the results will be
posted in the microsoft.public.security.virus NG.
BTW the file you are seeing is more than likely just a random
name, so you won't find any info about it on the web.
If you resolve it I hope you also post here with a report.
