What is this program that is running in the background
under C:\Winnt\system32? (My system was WINNT; then it was
upgraded to Window 2K, but for some reason the system
folder is still named WINNT.) Msbtn.exe is on my startup
list. I cannot find it identified or explained doing
general web searches or searching this forum (or wn2K
secruity forum).

Can anyone tell me if what it is and if I should remove it?

Thanks,

"but for some reason the system folder is still named WINNT" - That's what it should be. Microsoft went back to C:\Windows starting with Windows XP.

msbtn.exe is likely being called here in your registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or same place under HKCU

or in your Startup folders.

If the call to the executable does not include a path then the file is in C:\WINNT\system32
