Don Buckmaster

I have followed all of the directions in the various post to remove the
virus. Just a few additional questions.

-after renaming the file extension to .JNK can they be deleted?
-when I open the start up tab in msconfig there is still an entry for
msblast.exe with a check mark. Do I need to remove the check mark and how
can I remove the entry from the start up?

Thanks for all the support. And yes I was one of the ignorant uses not
utilizing the free XP firewall.

I unfortunately did not see the post containing the VB script. I renamed
the 2 MS blast files and installed the patch in safe mode OK. The computer
does not reboot and appears OK. How do I get rid of the entry in startup?
Will it be deleted from startup after I manually remove it from the
registry?

Thanks, Don

Well then its gone. If its not there you do not have it any more.

Questions same as Don. I followed the directions from Symantec and Microsoft and fixed my computer, but how do I remove the entry "msblast" from the RUN/msconfig box. The line still there (although unchecked). I followed Paul's Web Site instructions, but in the registry line couldn't find the entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "windows auto update"="msblast.exe"
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Roberto

Paul,

You took the wording for this "topic" directly from MVP Kelly Theriot's web
site, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rpc. And you give
absolutely no credit to her for her work! Yes, Mike and I contributed in
fine tuning the script to make it more user friendly, but the concept was
Kelly's, and the original work was here. Now you see why we're often
reluctant to allow people to host our material on their web sites.

I have the same question. How do you remove the Msblast entry from the Run/Msconfig box? I ran Norton's Fixblast, got the patch, everything came out clean. I also followed Paul's web site suggestion to remove the registry line, but didn't find any entry there. Any ideas?
Thanks.
