MSAS Server Down?

R

Randy Knobloch

I'm reading messages in other newsgroups that updates cannot be
"pulled" at this time.
I get: "Warning - Cannot Connect to the Internet"

I haven't read all the messages, nor have I tested carefully, but my sense
just from the message volume at this point is that this issue isn't on a
given machine, or in the build--it's an issue outside the local machines and
networks.

Often in this kind of issue, the problem is not the servers themselves, but
the mechanisms between them and us--load balancing or intrusion prevention
mechanisms of various kinds.

They'll get it sorted out .

Yep, it appears that their server for updates is down. The message that the
update program generates is especially tragic. It should say it can't
connect to the SERVER but it says INTERNET instead. That is WRONG, WRONG,
WRONG. I just spent about 4 and half hours trying to troubleshoot my
firewall, and then uninstall, re-download and re-install Antispyware. Then
tried to research the problem and was playing with .DAT files and everything
else. If the program's message was a bit more accurate, it would have saved
me HOURS of aggravation and utter dismay!

I am getting the same problem on two PC's - one of which was JUST UPDATED
WITH THE LATEST VERSION OF MSAS _ SO IT MUST HAVE HAD A CONNECTION TO THE
INTERNET TO DO THIS !!!!!!

So it has to be a problem related to the "other end" i.e the problem is NOT
being reported correctly within MSAS - i.e. it is not a problem with "
failing to connect to the internet", but a problem it seems with "not
getting a reply"

This seems to be a common problem with software packages : in that it does
not often properly report, identify, and charactersie a problem

If this is a general problem with the updating process of MSAS ., ie with a
distant server or whatever, then I think this shuld by now have been made
clear my microsoft. After all - we are supposedly in "partnership" to help
with the development of theis beat version !! ??

While I understand your disappointment and aggravation, there is nothing us MVPs
can do other than wait for Microsoft to repair or address the problem.
These groups are closely monitored, your comments will not go unnoticed.

Thank you.
