MSACCESS.exe proces does not close

After closing Access 2002, the MSACCESS.EXE process does
not always close. I need to kill the process manually
before I can start Access again. I searched the MS
knowledge base for a bug report, but couldn't find one.

Anyone else have this problem?

Make sure to close all open objects (recordsets, etc) ... lingering objects
can cause the msaccess.exe program to hang.

In addition to what Scott has pointed out this can also be the sign of a
corrupt db - if your file is still in A2000 format then a decompile might
solve the problem.

Here are a few links on decompile. They are written for Access97 but the
same method works for Access2000 and Access2002. Be sure to make a copy of
your mdb before you decompile.

I do not recommend decompiling if the db is in A2002 format because it
actually bloats the file. I don't know whether it removes corruption. In
A2002 I would try importing all objects into a new mdb.

Thanks to both, importing all objects into a new db did
the trick.
