MS Word Recent Files Option

MS Word provides a feature where recently used files can
be accessed quickly from the "File" drop-down menu. This
can be either enabled or disabled via "Tools/Options".
Sometimes a file will be from a media that is no longer
present, e.g. floppy or CD or flash drive and will try to
search for it. I would like to delete these unused
references.

I was able to search the registry for references to
recently used files in Powerpoint and delete them, but do
not see the same for Word. Where does Word keep a list of
it's recently used files? Is it in the registry, or in
some other file on the C drive?

Thanks, Suzanne. That is a very helpful trick. It
worked well. The same trick does not work in Power
Point, though. Is there another key sequence for that
application? I see that it removes the menu item, but
the reference still remains in the "Open / History". I
could delete the recent file in History of Power Point,
but it was still in the File menu pull down.
