These could be misspellings.
Mouse-right click to see options.
Also check the language setting for the word and document, this could
sometimes affect these effects.
Check your settings under Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar to see if you
have the
"Check spelling as you type" and "Check grammar as you type" boxes checked.

It sounds like you might have your track changes turned on. Look at the
bottom of your screen to see whether TRK is showing in black. If it is, turn
off the change tracking and accept changes. They should go back to their
normal appearance.
