MS word mail merge help please

Hiya,
Newbie here.
I'm doing an online course and i'm really stuck on mail merge. What i have to do is preform a mail merge , then a query all of which i think i've done right. This is were i get stuck, i have to merge the query and save it in a new document and i've tried allsorts to do this. When i've done the query there is a small box that says 'mail merge recipients' if i click ok the box goes? so, how do i merge the query? hope someone can help as its driving me mad! lol
