MS Word lil paperclip helper

I was very interested in the little helper that comes with the help feature
of MS Word, i wanted to ask if anyone knew how it worked and what kind of
software/programming is used to create such a application.
 
The Office Assistant, like Clippie, is no longer being offered with Office
as of the 2007 version. No clue what was used but most people found it
annoying. Think long and hard before you add "cutesy" to a program.

I completely agree about the annoyance factor of the Help Assistants, but
the technology is still interesting.

The animated figures and the way they interact with programs are based on
Microsoft Agent technology. You can get lots of information about it by
