MS Word 2007 cursor not working

When I double click documents it opens word but not the document. I am unable
to highlight text or move the scroll bar with my cursor. I also cannot select
options from the word options menu because my cursor doesn't work!!. It only
affects MS Word 2007. Please help it is driving me crazy!!
