There really is no such thing as a WordPad document. The file created by
Word is surely a Word Doc file (unless you "File/Save as" something
else). What you perceive as a Word Pad document is probably beause when
you double click on the document file name (via Explorer), XP launches
Word Pad then opens the file? Wordpad can read/write Word doc file
format. If yes, this caused by the file extension DOC being associated
in XP with WordPad, not Word. Read in XP's help about "file
association" to see how to change the association back to Word.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I would suspect that Rob's advice is spot on but another idea.....

In Word, what is the default "save as" found in Tools>Options>Save "default
format"?
