MS Update Site V5 hangs

Hi

I have looked at the Microsoft website to get an answer
to this and could not find a solution that works. While
goggling I find that in order for the the v5 site to work
I am supposed to be prompted to download an active x
control. I am not prompted and the page just hangs and
ultimately times out. I am using XP Pro. and have
installed all the updates so far.
The question is where can I find the active x control
that I need. Or any other solution that has a chance of
success.
