MS patches and updates etc

I,too, was assaulted by this nasty svchost program error.
I found a link on this message board that fixed it for me,
finally. Now, am I to understand that I should visit the
Microsoft website monthly and just download ALL patches
and updates listed there for Windows 2000,my operating
system?? Sometimes there are 30 downloads....should I
just do all of them? I have no idea what they are or what
I'm doing.

Did you also install a good firewall and antivirus software?
Part of your responsibility as a computer owner is keeping your system
patched. The auto update feature will make this easier for you if you like -
you should take all critical updates, and relevant recommended ones. Don't
take driver updates or bad things will happen....;-)
