MS Outlook 2002 for XP Professional won't send

I'm using Earthlink's email servers. Everything works fine except MS
Outlook:

1) Outlook Express successfully sends and receives mail using these servers.

2) I wrote a JavaMail app that successfully sends mail.

3) MS Outlook receives mail OK.

4) MS Word successfully sends mail using the smtp server when used by
itself. It behaves as it's supposed to. When you hit 'send' an
authentication window pops up. After entering the password the message gets
sent. None of this happens when Word is being used to construct and send the
email from inside MS Outlook. Instead, I get a '550' error message -
'Configure email client to use authentication'. Try as I might to configure
MS Outlook, nothing works.

I just reinstalled MS Office XP Professional after a system crash which is
why I 'm having issues now.

Never mind. I figured it out. It was just the way Outlook handles
authentication and sending messages.
