i have a virus and in the directions to remove i have to
go into dos mode. i have xp and the instructions are for
an older version of windows

There is no DOS in Windows XP. All you can use is the command prompt by
going to Start>>Run>>"cmd", but there is no DOS.

You visit the anivirus software [which you are using]website and get the
version updated.The antivirus software which you are using must have
recovery disks.
Use them to get rid of virus.
