MS Access Job Hunter

My experience with Access and other MS Office applications was acquired while
serving twenty years in federal prison. I was fortunate enough to have a job
which required the use of a computer and a supportive staff member who
brought me books. As a result I became fairly proficient in Excel and
Access, built several good databases, and performed a lot of analytical work
for several institutions. Things have changed since the 80s and I'm a little
lost. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might find a job where I
could employ my database skills in the DFW area?

In today's world one would post his resume at several online Job
Boards. At the same sites one would monitor job postings and respond
to relevant ones.
Example job boards: monster.com, dice.com, careerbuilder.com,
<your_local_newspaper>.com

You'll have to be prepared to discuss your incarceration openly and
candidly, and provide references to show you're a changed man.

You can post your resume online, but employers get bombarded with hundreds
of CV for each posted job. Furthermore, it is estimated that about 80% of
job openings are not even advertised.

So what to do then. Use your personal network. Speak to your friends,
family. You might be surprised who might know of an opportunity.

Also follow-up is essential. Most employers simply get submerged in CVs.
So if you are truly interested in a componay or position, follow-up with a
phone call 48-72 hrs. after you send in your CV. Always remember although
they are looking for technical skills, they are also evaluating your
personality at the same time so try and be as relaxed as possible, kind.....
(you know the rest). Before calling or having an interview, check out their
website an get some particular information about the company and slip it into
the conversation, it will demonstrate interest in the company (they like
this).

If you check the big job board they have numerous articles on this and much
more, they can help you get off to a good start.
