MS Access - can't create new forms/columns/reports etc

Everything in my Access is greyed out except making tables/queries. I'm
trying to add a new column in the table or new form and they are all greyed
out. I'm on Access 2000.

What i'm ultimately trying to do is link Data1(access db) with Data2(excel).
Data1 has all transactions and data2 has zip code information. I want to
link them up with a unique identifier customer ID, using match/index or
vlookup functions, but I'm not sure how to do this in access.
If i export the access data1 file to excel, it is too long and I need to
split it in 2 sheets, hence why i'm trying to manipulate directly in access.
Then i use pivottable reports in excel and call on this external data base.

thx!

You'll need to go into 'Design Mode' for those objects in order to edit them
but as DL says ask in an Access.* group.
