I get a lot of warning messages in System Event Log about:
Source: MRxSmb
Event ID: 8005
Description: The browser has received a server
announcement indicating that the computer <my computer> is
a master browser, but this computer is not a master
browser.

The data words is:
0000: 00000000 00580002 00000000 80001f45
0010: 00000000 00000000 00000010 00000000
0020: 00000000 00000000

Anyone with any ideas where to start investigation?

Thanks in advance,
Sten Einar

Stopping and restarting the computer browser service should eliminate the
8005 error.

Are your clients Windows XP Professional. The XP Pro machines have a higher
election
weight for being a browse master than the Windows 2000 server.

There are two possible options to address this problem:

1) Change registry key for isdomainmaster and maintainserverlist on the
Windows XP
machines.

Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters

IsDomainMaster=False
MaintainServerList=No

2) Stop and disable the Browser service on the Windows XP machines

This will prevent the XP clients from participating in browser elections,
but they
will still be visible in the browse list.

At that point the Browse Master role will be returned to the Windows 2000
Server
