mpeg files won't play

I know this has come up before. I have received several mpeg files from an
agency. When I insert them into a Powerpoint 2003 document they don't play.
Just a white screen. I have tried this on 2 machines and the same thing
happens. I have inserted video files before without a problem. When I
spoke to the guy at the agency he said they worked fine there using 2002.
What could I be doing wrong? I have the files and the presentation in a
folder together, I am inserting a movie/sound file. Are there different
types of mpeg files?
