mpeg 2 causes powerpoint failure 0xc0000005

I think this is the same problem Robert has.

When I insert a MPEG 2 video it works fine the first time I run the
powerpoint presentation. The next time I open powerpoint it crashes when I
try to show the MPEG 2 video. This happens every time. (MPEG 1 videos do
not fail). Another piece of info... It doesn't matter whether the MPEG 2
video is used in one ppt presentation or another one later it crashes ppt
every time. In other words you get to use the MPEG 2 file once and then ppt
barfs on it every time!!

I have tried many things described in the troubleshooting video web page
offered by echo voice to no avail.

I also think it is a recent Windows change, but what can be done to work
around this problem???

The only thing I have come up with is calling up my videos with a hyperlink
and running them with Windows Media Player which by the way works fine with
these MPEG 2 videos.

I've always found the best quality and most reliable playback of MPEG2 files
in PowerPoint comes from using a 3rd party MPEG2 decoder such as the one at
www.elecard.com
It works well on all but the most sorry machine/graphics card/memory
configurations and has got me out of many a hole - I'd recommend the trial.
