I need the files in WAV format for my non-mp3 car stereo.

Any good freeware suggestions for converting?

Thanks,

Norm

Do you have a CD-RW that is less than 4-5 years old? Did it come with a
burning program? Assuming "yes" to both, all you need do is tell the
burning program you want to make an *audio* (not data) CD then drag/load
it with MP3s that have a total playing time of 80 minutes or less. It
will decode the MP3s and burn the result. The result will play on any
stereo.

So you need an Audio-CD, right? Just use Burnatonce, it can create
Audio-CDs from mp3's and other compressed formats.

Yes and yes. I will give that a try -- thanks!

Hello,
Oh oh, are you suggesting I need to use a physical
Audio CD to use in my car stereo? Why won't a data
CR recorded in WAVE format work?

other way round, what is the advantage from a data CD with
wave files? As you use full quality you will not get more
music on data as on an audio CD. Audio CD is more compatible
and gives you the ability to define an order for the songs.

I'm curious, why is your car stereo capable to read data cd,
but not able to read other formats than wave. Very useless
feature.

Another suggestion:
Burrrn

Thorsten

Because stereo players can't read computer files...there is no file
structure per se on an audio CD. True, the wave info is what is written
to an audio CD but it is written in a way compatible for that type of
player

If you burn a Data-CD with .wav-files, does your car stereo recognise
the disk an play the files? I have never seen a car stereo with such a
feature. Especially astonishing if the device does *not* play MP3s.

footnote: in the US some blank CDs are sold (at a higher cost) as "audio
CDs" - they're exactly the same as other blank CDs.

These so called 'Audio CDRs' are intended for usage in standalone
CD-Burners that operate as a part of a hifi-unit. The disks are more
expensive because the customer pays a copyright fee, since it's obvious
that the content of the disk will be audio. The 'other' blank CDs are
intended for computer-usage, that's why no copyright fee is charged.

Maybe I didn't write my question quite properly.

I have a '99 Camry with the stock single CD player. I also have
some MP3's on my PC, and I have a boatload of data CDR's. I
assumed any CD with WAVE files would work in my car, hence the
MP3 to WAVE conversion. I have seen Audio CD's in stores, and I
had forgotten all about them. I know they cost more than data
CD's. Is it necesarry for me to write to Audio CD's, or can I
use the data CDR's I have on hand?

Thanks,

Norm

Hello,
Maybe I didn't write my question quite properly.

that AND: The answer was already in this thread, maybe you
should read all answers to your question. Susan was the one
who understood your problem.

You can burn audio CDs also to regular CDRs. What you have seen
as Audio CDRs is something special including copyright fee like
tape cassettes years ago and they are needed _only_ for special
stand alone hifi CD burner.

So there is a difference between (hardware) audio CDR and
burning with software into audio CD _format_.

To burn audio CD on your computer just choose this type in your
favorite burning app, or for example use "Burrrn", which I
already suggested in my former answer to you.

You may try, but I still cannot believe, your Camry will play
wave from data CD...

Regards,
Thorsten
