Moving XP to RAID array - driver question

Hi,

I have a PC setup with a single hard drive and I want to use Partition Magic to
move it to a RAID array in a new PC I'm building. The new PC will have a
different chipset and also an IC9R based RAID5 array. Obviously my existing XP
installation doesn't have drivers loaded for either of these so my question is :

Is there any way of installing the RAID and chipset drivers into my existing
installation prior to moving the partition over so that the XP installation will
find the required RAID and chipset drivers when it starts up ?

Thanks,

Boo

I don't think it's possible, at the very least you should have to do a
"Repair Install" (at which point you can add RAID-drivers), after which you
have to install chipset drivers, graphics drivers etc. and do the full
WinUpdate round...

I may try installing "new hardware" on my old system then forcing the driver
disk on it. A retore point is called for methinks...

Thanks for the advice,

In case anyone else needs to do the same thing I'll just post here what worked
for me :

1. Failed method :
I tried copying over the original partition using Partition Magic. The target
system had the disks set up in non-raid mode with the raid bios switched off. I
then did a repair install of XP slipstreamed with SP3 and also the raid driver.
This did not work for some reason and went into a re-boot cycle.

2. Successful method :
I connected the source disk to the ide port and set up the target disks as
before (ie non-raided). I booted form the source disk and installed the Intel
raid managemtnt software from the Gigabyte CD on it. I then copied the data to
the target disk using PM. When this was complete I disconnected the source disk
and booted into the target disk (still non-raid). I then installed all the
Gigabyte drivers and switched on the raid in the bios. Finally the intel raid
management software created a raid volume from the 3 installed drives (took 7
hours). I don't know how it does it, but it's very clever because you can still
use the system while it works despite the fact that disk you are running the
managemt software from is sourcing all the data and ends up as part of the raid
set. Anyway this worked for me so hurray !

Hth,
