Moving .pst MS Outlook files from local PC to home NAS server

I just installed a HP Mediasmart NAS home server at my home. Our storage
needs are just getting to vast for each PC to store all our digital assets.

Anyhow, I noticed that on my personal PC one of the largest files I have is
my Microsoft Outlook 2007 .pst files. It's where MS Outlook stores all my
archived emails.

I'd like to learn how to MOVE this file to my HOME SERVER and POINT MS
Outlook to archive all my .pst files at this location thus freeing up my
local PC from these HUGE files.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Server-hosted PSTs are not supported and any network glitch runs the risk of
corrupting PSTs on network shares.

That said, click Tools>Options>Other>AutoArchive and enter a PST on the
server.

Thanks Brian,

Understanding the limitations of pointing Outlook to archive .pst files on
my home server rather than on the local PC where the MS Outlook application
resides risks corripting .pst files if there is a network glitch.

Just so that I understand this more fully, what is your estimate
percentage-wise that a .pst file could become corrupted if I point Outlook to
archive the .pst file
on my home server?

Would I be better off devising an archive plan where only keep my archives
to a maximum of 3 months back on my local PC but then physically store these
files on the home server once they are archived?

Please be patient with me, I'm a newbie when it comes to MS Outlook and
managing emails has always been a mystery to me.

I'd welcome any advise or tips to become smarter about how to handle this
crucial part of my daily PC life.

Add another HDD.

Are you telling me you are exceeding 2TB of storage capacity on your
local drive? Store your digital assets on the network and by all means
keep a copy of the PST there as well, but keep the original local.

The risk is not worth it.

Most people who have such a huge amount of data are multimedia
professionals. For them, keeping data in triplicate is mandatory.

I have no way to judge that because I cannot audit your home infrastructure.

Since your need has to do with lack of local storage and not with backup
reliability, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably put my PSTs on the home
server, but I'd make frequent backups.
