moving from AD\domains to standalone servers

We purchased another company but didn't get all the
assets. The servers are being split-up running AD in
mixed mode. Now so you understand our setup we have a PDC
or BDC at every location. The sites that we are getting
we need to break out of the domain and uninstall AD. We
need to save the profile information from the domain to
be able to go back to a workgroup. Is there a way we can
keep the profile information from the domain to be able
to use in a worgroup. Is there an easy way to move the
user from AD?

DCPromo (on a DC) removes AD and makes it an
ordinary server.

Saving the directories for profiles is just saving those
items from the file system -- use xcopy or any backup
utility.

After you get the servers into new domain and users
have created/coped a "default" profile you can replace
these with the saved copies.
