I recently acquired a hand-me-down system that had XP-home installed. The
system was full of software that I did not want. It was so bloated it took
an inordinate time to boot up. I also got all the original CDs that had
originally come with it.
I decided to start out clean. I used the system restore CD to format and
then reinstall XP-home. I already have a wired network that has an XP Pro
system at one and an older slower system with 98 SE at the other. Here was
my chance to upgrade to XP on both ends of my network and gain some speed
too. Now I temporarily added this new box to my network to provide the
easiest path to transferring applications and files from the 98 SE box to
the XP-home box. All went well.
Now the problem. Where should the incoming files go so that they show up in
"Start" > "All Programs"? I know that some applications will have to be
installed using their original disks, either floppy or CD. The registry
entries from 98 were not transferred.
Is there a good way to accomplish this transfer and get the programs listed
in "All Programs"?
