moving files redux

I bought a new computer.
I atempted to move my files from my hard disk to my new computer by copying
them to a CD. That worked but when I put the new CD in the new computer it
will not let me copy them to the hard disk because they are now marked read
only. When I check back on my old
computer none of them are marked read only.
I am also unable to delete them from the CD-RW because of the read only
property. What am I doing wrong?
What can I do?

Hi Bill,

A file with Read-only attributes will allow you to copy them. Maybe
something else is causing this. Make sure you're not using Cut instead
of Copy.

You're probably not going to be able to "delete" files from a CD-RW.
What you have to do is to "erase" the disk. There should be an option
to do this in your CD burning software. Let us know if you're still
having problems with this.

All my files on my hard original hard disk do not have read only attributes.
In My computer, I highlighted seweral folders in the My Documents folder,
clicked copy from the tasks pane on the left, a window opened, I selected
the CD ROM drive, it copied them and a balloon opened at the bottom of the
screen that said 'You have files waiting to be written to the CD' I clicked
the baloon and was taken to the CD Drive(D:) I clicked Write these files to
CD and the Windows CD writing wizard popped up and followed it to
completion.

When Go back in the read only box is checked at the bottom of the General
tab in the Properties Window. This has been inserted during the process (and
I guess Windows does it) and cannot be removed. The original files are not
checked.

Thanks Bill

Files saved to CD are automatically listed as Read-only. When they are
restored to a hard drive they remain Read-only.

Locate the files through My Computer or Windows Explorer.

Highlight the file or group of files | Right click the file or group of
files | Properties | Uncheck the Read-only box found in Attributes | Click
Apply | Click OK

Hope this helps. Let us know.
