Using Windows XP explorer, I've been finding when moving files into
folders, what will often happen is just as I'm carefulley positioning
on the folder to make sure I'm over the *right* folder-- I'll let go of
the mouse to drop it just as Explorer decides to repaint the tree and
expand the folder-- and I end up having dropped the file in an unknown
subfolder so I have to then fish around and see where it really went.
It's happened to me enough times now that I'm now finding it a REALLY
annoying quirk. I'd think if I'm holding a file with the mouse,
windows shouldn't repaint the tree until at least a moment after I let
go so this doesn't happen. Are there any adjustments I could make to
the interface that might eliminate this behavior?
Instead of dragging and dropping (which can be hazardous), you might
consider using the 'Move to' feature in Windows Explorer > Edit. Just hold
down Ctrl and select the files (if more than one) you want to move, then
click 'Move to' and navigate to the folder you want to move the files to.
