Hi StanfordLYNX,
It's something you have to do while installing WinXP or straight after an
install of it (After the target disk is formatted and assigned that is).
After an installation there is so much to change in the registry its' not
funny. I've done this once before and advise (not really just an opinion)
for many reasons not to do it, I can guarantee you, will end up wanting to
move it back. Even somethings under the 'D and S' are best left with the
system. All Microsoft software (in my experience) will work without any
trouble, a small percentage of non-MS software won't work at all, and some
software will claim it can't find folders you've never seen on your disk or
heard of, then either crash or not work properly.... Also you should
consider in this situation, if your D: disk goes or something happens to it,
it may take great effort to get your system running, short of a rebuild.
: How can I do this seamingly simple task?
I've only done this after an install of XP Pro and it wasn't simple, one
little registry key that passes your consideration will want to bring the
system down (I got it working very well though). The MSKB article I used as
my guideline,
'
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314843'
..
Also if you do go along with it you'll learn alot about WinXP and it's
registry, the post install option that is, and let us know how it goes.

Winux P.
:I repartitioned my hard drive to allow me to have my Programs-Applications
: on Drive C: and I want to have my Data files on drive D:.
: How the heck can I move my entire "Documents and Settings" system folder
to
: Drive D:...? I've tried to rename it, to move it and even tried the
"Files
: and Settings Transfer Wizard". The wizard took several hours to go
through
: its agenda and the folder still would not move.
