Moving boot volume to larger hard drive...

Here is the situation: I have a Windows 2000 server that
is a domain controller. This server has Exchange on it and
MSSQL server as well.

It's on a small partition on a small drive. I need to move
it to a larger drive. I'm getting tired of having to
uninstall programs and searching for log files to delete
to make room... (We also have Arcserve V9 which seems to
eat disk space like it's candy)

I can't reinstall on the larger volume because there is an
application that is no longer made that can't be re-
installed that is on the "C" drive...

Do I 'Ghost' the drive? Do I setup another machine as a
server and set it as the primary domain controller and
demote the current server and then 'Ghost' it and promote
it back again?

There was a kbase article that talked about a method for
moving the volume to a larger drive but it specifically
recommended not using it for a domain controller...

I'm stuck... I've scheduled time this weekend to do this.
I really need help.

Has anyone done this that can help me???

TIA...

C,

Microsoft's official answer is to backup and restore the drive.

But this is exactly what Ghost is for. The dollars you spend buying Ghost
(or a similar utility) is probably far cheaper than the frustration you'll
experience trying to find an alternate solution.

Just make sure you have a fallback plan in case things don't work as
expected.

OK, I found a kbase article that I can't find again that
told how to move an installation of Windows 2000 by using
NTBACKUP and then restoring. Here's the problem: I did
everything and the 2 raid 5 sets were not able to be seen
after rebooting with the new larger drive!

The utilities for the array controller could see the
arrays and I could check consistancy and stuff, but
nothing through Win Explorer...

I tried to start the Disk Manager and it ran forever and I
finally gave up... Is there a way to connect to the arrays
that are already there without blowing them away and
somehow recreating them?

This drive has software on it that can't be re-installed...

Oh,a nd the ghost idea failed. There isn't enough room on
the drive to allow for defragmentation! ARRGGGGG!!!

Thanks in advance!!!
