Moving a DC?

H

Hank Arnold

We currently have two DC's in our domain. We are planning to implement a
third soon.

We have a domain split into 2 subnets (192.168.1.xxx & 192.168.100.xxx).
The .1.xxx subnet is the one that has DC1 & DC2 as well as DC3. Once
the 3rd DC is in place and functioning, I want to move DC2 to the
..100.xxx subnet and make it the primary logon server.

What steps should I be taking? The transfer will take place well within
the tombstone period (probably within 1-3 days)............

Jorge,

Both subnets are in the same AD site. What I'm looking for is having a
DC at a remote site that is connected via a T1 line set up so that it is
the preferred DC for logons and DNS (and possibly DHCP). The clients
would go to the main site if this DC is busy or down...

Regards,
Hank Arnold

create a new site and punt the new DC in it.. that way the client in that
same site will always use the local DC and if that one fails they will go to
the main site

for DNS/WINS/DHCP you would need to do additional configurations like:
* point clients/servers prim. to local site and sec. to main site (for both
DNS/WINS)
* For dhcp use the 80/20 rule -->
