Moving a DC to a new hardware platform, keeping same name .. possible without demoting old server fi

I'm doing a fairly simple migration moving a Win2000 DC to a new Win2000 DC
box (just changing the hardware really). My goal is to keep the old server
offline and keep the same name for printer definitions.

The one hiccup i forsee is W2K ADC won't allow me to promote this new
hardware platform to a DC using the same name of the old server right ? I
would have to first demote the old server, then take it offline to do the
upgrade ?

Yes, you can't install the new server with the same name. What you have to
do is demote it and take it offline before installing the new server.
