When I attempt to capture video from a VCR with Movie
Maker I can do so successfully if I set the screen size
to 720 x 480 (which I do not like). If I set the screen
size to 640 x 480 (which I love) it gives me: The video
device is currently in use. Close any other application
that is using the device and try again.
I have captured analog video from the same source with
the 640 x 480 res before and it worked fine but now it
won't work. If I use the 720 x 480 res the picture is
horribly distorted when I play the finished version back
in windows media player 9. It's very wide and everyone is
short and squat. I have spent days working on this issue
and can't seem to resolve it. Dell sent me a set of
restoration disks because they say the only way to fix
this is to re-install the entire system. I am not happy
about that. I just got this computer(Dell Dimension 4600
with XP Media Center as the OS)about 6 weeks ago and am
not really wanting to re-do the whole thing on a new
computer. I have de-fragged; downloaded and installed
MM2; done system restore. Anyone have any suggestions
for me? If I don't get any new ideas I guess I will have
to do the entire system over; just hate to so early in
the computer's life. Thanks.

Noelle...
I'm no expert, but I've done this many times. It's a sure bet the fault is
with the display driver. I think you should try these steps first.
1. Do a windows update (start menu...windows update) and install all the
latest stuff it tells you that you need.
2. If that doesn't solve your problem. Go to the Graphics card mfr site and
load the newest drivers for your card.
3. If that doesn't work, do this...
Goto Start, Settings, Control Panel, System. Click the hardware tab, then
the device manager tab. Click on the plus (+) next to the Display adapter.
This will bring up your display card. Highlight it and push your delete key.
Say yes to uninstall it.
Now reboot your computer. The system will re-install the driver from
scratch.
4. Let us know if you still have a problem.
