Movie Maker shuts down when opened

I have been having this problem for a while. I have read a lot of other
places that to fix it, I need to get rid of IE 7 and go back to IE 6. It
seems to me that there should be a fix put out by Microsoft or someone else
to rectify this problem. Every time I open up Movie Maker, I get this error:
"Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." It then will shut down when you click the
balloon that popped up. I have found one way around it is to delete one file,
sorry can't remember what file right now, and then open Movie Maker real
quick before Windows replaces the file (which it does really quick since it
is a required file). If I can beat it getting Movie Maker open before it
replaces the file, then I can use Movie Maker fine till I shut it down and
reopen it again. Then I have to do it all over again. Is there some other fix
for this that is permanent, or do I have to go back to IE 6 for this error to
be resolved? Can anyone help me out? Thanks for your help.

I'm thinking you have read all this before
but here it is again:

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.
