Movie Maker Non-responsive

Help Please! I'm totally frustrated with Windows Movie Maker. I can't seem to
do anything without it going non-responsive. I add a simple 2 minute clip,
which runs (witout audio I might add), but as soon as I add a second short
clip, or a transition, or a simple title page, the program freezes. I've done
a lot of research, but no one seems to have a suitable answer.

Can't be a memory issue. I'm running it on a brand new XP Media Center
(which I bought because I thought it was supposed to be the real deal for
editing movies etc). I've got the latest SP2, and read all the crap on
papajohn's...which is just useless technospeak.

The only thing I can think is that the file version(s) are screwed. The
version of the WMM files on my system are:

WMM2AE.dll (2.1.4026.0)
WMM2DVR.DLL (2.5.2180.2)
WMM2ERES.dll (2.5.2180.2)
WMM2EXT.dll (2.5.2180.2)
WMM2FILT.dll (2.1.4026.0)
WMM2FXA.dll (2.1.4026.0)
WMM2FXB.dll (2.1.4026.0)
WMM2RES2.dll (2.1.4026.0)
WMM2RES.dll (2.1.4026.0)

Some differing version numbers there. That make sense to anyone? Please
help, becasue I'm ready to toss this hunk of junk in the bin and get a Mac.

Is this program just pure crap or what? How can it be freezing with a simple
2 minute clip. I can't even imagine trying to use it to make a "movie".

AHA! Success! It looks like its caused by "video filters installed by other
programs". If all of those filters are disbaled, WMM works fine.

In WMM, click Tools > Options and then click the Compatability tab. The
clear (or uncheck) all of the filters and click OK.

Once I did that, WMM appears to be working perfectly.

I have a similar problem. When I open mm it takes between 3 and 5 minutes to
load the software. Thi is on a pretty good machine.

Thank you Doug! I have been trying to fix this problem for a month! I've
edited register; deleted, reinstalled, prayed and cursed...but this simple
solution solved this particular problem!
