Movie Maker Crashing

I have a laptop and use a fire connect for notebooks afw-1430a ieee
1394/firewire cardbus. When I try to transfer video from my sony 8mm digital
handycam to the laptop via firewire and windows movie maker it freezes the
entire computer. I can't even turn the computer off properly. Any
suggestions or help would be SO appreciated!

Try a capture with the WinDV utility... link on the Setup > Other Software
page of my website.

Test your camera/cable on another computer if you can... and try another
firewire cable on yours... if you get the same symptoms with WinDV, it
could be the cable or the firewire card....
