Movie blacks out when playing

Hi --

I inserted an AVI file into a PowerPoint 2003 slide using Insert | | Movie
From File.

When I play the presentation, the slide displays and displays the first
frame of the movie. However, when the movie begins to play, the image is
blacked out. I know the movie is playing because I can hear the soundtrack.
But all I get on screen is a black rectangle.

How do I fix this?

Can you tell us where the video clip came from and how it was created?

Sorry, I can't..

I downloaded the file from the Internet. It plays fine in Media Player.

I see someone else posted a question with the same problem :-)

As it's an unknown source I would suspect it is not in a file format
recognized by PowerPoint or you don't have the required codecs installed for
it to work in PowerPoint (The MCI player) Playing it in Widows Media Player
has nothing to do with it. Try clicking Start > Run and entering
wmplay32.exe to bring up the MCI player and see if it plays properly.

No. At least not yet ...

This is a desktop PC with an NVIDIA GEForce FX 5600 Ultra card and a CRT
display.

Eventually, I would imagine that this presentation will be projected,
probably using a laptop.

There is no file on this PC's system drive named wmplay32.exe. The only file
I find is wmplayer.exe. And that program runs the video.

Windows Media Players reports the following Properties for the file:

Length: 01:31
Bit rate: -
Media type: Video
Video size: 640x480
Audio codec: -
Video codec: -

Austin types funny sometimes.

Try:

Start, Run
type MPLAY32.EXE
press ENTER



The only file
 
Hi,

Had one like yesterday. Try renaming the avi extension to mpg. That will
make it play via a different method.
