move xp from e to c

O

Owen Nugent

XP crashed on me before and i reinstalled it. when I reinstalled it, I
goofed somehow and instead of reinstalling it over the old version on C
drive it installed it on e drive. Now I wonder if there is some way to move
it from e drive to c drive or if I just have to install it on c drive and go
to all the time to update it

Hi Owen,

You will need to reinstall it (again) on C:\, then rerun the updates.

This happens if you have a ZIP drive connected at the time of setup -
other similar external drives might have the same effect. It will be on
the partition that was originally C but the letter has been changed.
Only practical course is to go back and reinstall again, making sure the
Zip is disconnected first and then booting the XP CD direct. Enter
Setup, and after the license agreement take New Install. When it asks
you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete the current partition
and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next stage

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one
