Move outlook emails from old computer to a new one

I don't want to transfer contacts or appointments, ONLY emails. My Treo
synching has already transfered contacts and appointments. (The obvious -
copying the Inbox folder to my desktop so I can put it on a CD - doesn't
work.) Both computers use Windows XP. Anyone know how I can do this?

If you can access the old computer's pst file on the new system. rename the
file to oldcomputer.pst and open the file (File | Open | ...)
Then grab whatever folder or group of messages you want and drag/drop them
to the new Personal Outlook Folder you want to move them to.
When you have moved all the information you want Right click on the Personal
FoldersOld.pst and selet Close.

The computers are not networked, so I can't access the old computer's files
from the new computer. But they are both in the same room. I'm hoping to
burn the approrpriate folders on a CD and put them on the new computer. I
can't figure out how to find the right pst files (I did a search for *.pst)
but i can't find anything that looks like a series of folders (only things
called outlook, contact, etc.). So I'm a bit lost still.

hi, try this.
select file then import/export.
import export wizard then opens.
select export to a file then next.
select personal folder file(.pst) then next
highlight your inbox. if there are any sub folders that you have mail and
want to include these make sure the box - include sub folders is ticked.
select a location in your documents to save the file. you can now save this
to disk.
copy the file from your disk to my documents on your new pc.
select file in outlook then import/export
select import from another program or file then next
select personal folder file(.pst) then next
browse to the location of the file you just saved from the old pc
your old emails should now be on your new pc.

hope this helps

hi, try this.
select file then import/export. snip

select file in outlook then import/export

No NO NO! It WON'T HELP! Using the Import and Export function in Outlook
on pst files is the quickest way to a corrupt file and loss of data. DO
NOT recommend it.

Just copy the existing pst file (with Outlook closed) and on the new
machine go to File-Open-Outlook Data File. then drag the data you require
into the existing set of Personal Folders.

hi gordon, this method has always worked for me.i have never had any corrupt
data. please tell me where the existing .pst file is located.
many thanks

You've been VERY lucky then. All the Outlook MVPs recommend NOT to import
and export.

The default location is in C:\Documents and Settings\{your username}\local
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\ (AFAIR - I'm not on Windows
at the moment). You will need to enable hidden and system files in Windows
Explorer to be able to see it.

If you don't mind losing custom forms, birthdays and anniversaries
connections to the calendar, connections between contacts and activities,
received dates on your mail, then go ahead and import export.
