move driver

Hi all,
I want to boot into safe mode on my XP pro machine but when I try to I
cannot because of two unsigned drivers in %Windir%/System32/Driver folder.
The dilemma is can I just move them? I think that I have to first unregister
the application/dll that is using them. Also will windows just reinstate them
because of the cache or something?
Regards,
James.

How To Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308514

Excerpted:

After you find unsigned drivers, you can disable them by using any of the
following methods:
•Disable the device in Device Manager (you may have to click Show hidden
devices on the View menu, and then disable the device under the Non-Plug and
Play Drivers branch).

•Uninstall the software that installed the third-party driver by using the
Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

•Rename the driver in the Winnt\System32\Drivers folder.

Hi Ramesh,
Thanks for the reply, but I do not want to uninstall the software, how can I
just rename or move the driver so I can then boot to safe mode. I can then
redo the last step and will save me having to reinstall the software?
Regards,
James.

James,

You can disable that particular driver from loading at startup. For this
purpose, you need to enter the Recovery Console.

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307654

[]
Disable disables a Windows system service or driver. The variable
service_or_driver is the name of the service or driver that you want to
disable. When you use this command to disable a service, the command
displays the service's original startup type before it changes the type to
SERVICE_DISABLED. Note the original startup type so that you can use the
enable command to restart the service.
