I have a Sony VAIO computer here that when it is first fired up the
mouse does not work. I can see the cursor on the login page, but it
doesn't more. I log in using the keyboard and get to the desktop and
the mouse still doesn't move.

If I restart the computer, the mouse works just fine. I have checked
and rechecked the connection and even tried another mouse, no joy!
These are PS/2 mice. Nothing seems amiss in Device Manager. What is
causing this and how can I fix it? Thank you.

Enter the BIOS setup and make sure that IRQ12 has been reserved for
the PS/2 mouse. If there is no such setting, use an USB mouse instead.
Try also a (PS/2) MS standard mouse driver if not already done and see
if the problem persists.
