Mouse problems on XP

J

Johnno

Using Windows XP, (completely up to date). Microsoft
Explorer Mouse (USB)with Intellimouse V5 (recently
upgraded). Microsoft Office 2000 Professional.

Situation worse in Excel. As soon as I click on a cell
its as if I was holding down the left button. All that
happens when I move the mouse is that I highlight cells.
Only way out is to right click on the tool bar and close.

Mouse behaviour on other programs also odd but Excel is
by far the worse. IE is usually fine.

No spyware or cursor software on board.

Been getting worse following updates to XP. Now unusable.

Tried uninstalling mouse drivers and rebooting, also
tried removing and reinstalling Intellimouse.

Getting pretty frustrated, anyone have any ideas ?

Recently I have experienced a very similar problem. I am using XP Pro and for no obvious reason the cursor will suddenly move all over the screen activating menus.

I have formatted the hard disk, re-loaded and updated XP Pro, updated the BIOS, replaced the video card and loaded the latest drivers.

I have scanned for viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, etc.

None of this has made the slightest difference, the problems occurs while using XP Pro and all programs

Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

Regards

Gerard
