mouse problem

After working with the computer for a while, I will log off and leave the
computer with the log on screen. If I then return to the computer, I often
find that I can no longer use the mouse to log back on (it appears to have
frozen). I can, however, navigate to log on using the arrows on the
keyboard. After doing this I again have mouse control. Any thoughts as to
why I temporarilly have lost control of the mouse?

Is it a wireless mouse? If then check the batteries.
Update the driver,or may try with another mouse.

Does it (Mouse) connect using USB ? By default XP sets the USB
Root Hub(s) to enter Power Savings mode. If the idle timer runs out
the PC is probably putting the Hubs in a power saving mode. When
you log back in, the Hubs are re-enabled, turning on the Mouse. To
check Hub Power settings, Open Device Manager, Expand the USB
category and double-click on each Hub listed. From the details box
click the "Power Management" (TAB). Uncheck/Untic the box that
reads "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

When posting about specific hardware - it helps to note which vendor,
model device is giving you problems. Sometimes issues are specific
to a particular brand of device.

Sorry, I should have mentioned the type of mouse. It is a Wacom mouse
which I use with a Wacom's graphics tablet. There are no batteries involved

No and No. Screensavers are not really needed for modern monitors. They
were in times past to keep the image from being burned in the screen but
that doesn't happen any more. Screen savers are just for show now.

Next time don't post a new question as a response to someone else's thread.
Make a new post with your question. I would recommend you not use the web
interface to access this newsgroup. It's actually a newsgroup and not a
forum or board. Use a newsreader to have the best experience.

XP comes with one, Outlook Express (OE). Here is a line to setting up OE
for newsgroups.

Lastly here is a link with info on how to make a good newsgroup post. It
will come in handy if you have to post a question about a particular
problem.

Making Good Newsgroup Posts

One of the best ways to learn is to "lurk" in the newsgroup reading posts,
learning from the responses, and developing resources. You will come across
answers to questions that you had in mind. When you get more comfortable
with it go ahead and answer a post. Everyone is welcome to participate.
