Mouse: multi selection in file list

To select multiple files in a list one needs to use Shift or Ctrl with the mouse. Not so
bad; it works. But even better would be a toggle on-toggle off type of selection, say
with the middle button. Is there a utility that would do that or maybe a method of
programming a mouse key?

u can hold the mouse key and drag it around an area and items in that area
gets selected!

I shoulda known. Not a complete solution; can't select separated files that way, but it
helps.

That idea got dropped with 95. Prior to 95 one pressed Ctrl + F8, the Space toggled selection and arrow keys didn't cancel selection. Obviously it turned out to be a stupid way in the labs and was changed.
