Mouse Issues

Hi, I just purchased a brand new IntelliPoint Optical
mouse (not cordless.) I seem to be having trouble with
it. - The pointer jitters a lot when I move in any
direction. Here's what I've tried:

- Installed, and re-installed IntelliPoint 4.1 (Didn't
help.)
- Tried without any drivers (Didn't help.)
- Tried plugging it into all USB ports on my system; same
problem.
- Even tried the PS/2 port; same problem.

I was told 2 things: 1. that this might be a communication
problem between the drivers, and the mouse, or the mouse,
and the USB port, but it can't be the mouse and the USB
port, I've tried using the same mouse on another machine,
and everything works fine. 2. Something might have gone
wrong during installation of Windows (I did a fresh
install last night.)

Any ideas/suggestions would be helpful.

I know it might sound silly but have you tried it on a
different surface? optical mice need to "see where their
going" so they need surfaces with texture or different
colours, like a mouse mat.
