mouse freezes constantly

I am running Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4400. Almost
every five minutes my cursor feezes. I unplug it and
replug it and it unfreezes. However, five minutes later,
it will freeze again.

Has anybody come up against the same problem? Any
suggestions? Thanks.
 
It's just the cursor. I can still use the keyboard and the
buttons on the mouse. Yes it is USB.
