I have been having problems recently with my system, when the problem
happens the first thing I notice is that the program I'm in will freeze,
when I press ctrl/alt/del and click on the applications tab the program that
is not responding is in the list twice, also the mouse button does not work
when I press it (it normally will open windows explorer when I press the
button).
I can forcefully shut the frozen app down but the mouse button will not work
until I reboot.
When I attempt to restart my PC I get a "pointer32.exe" is not responding, I
then click the shutdown button the computer just seems to hang there for
about 5 mins then will restart and every thing will be fine until I get the
next freeze.
Luckily I did a full image of my system a week ago which had worked fine for
2 months so I restored that image but within a few day the problem has come
back.
When I look in system restore there is a restore point called "Installed
Windows Media Format 9 series runtime setup", I have not installed anything
including updates so I assume that WMP 9 has installed something without
asking me, I wonder if that is causing problems with my mouse driver. There
is not uninstall for this.
I am using the MS mouse drive 4.10 which I have used for over a year, up
until a week ago my system was fine, there is a version 5 of my mouse driver
but I don't like it as I can't assign my mouse wheel button to open windows
explorer otherwise I would use it, all my other drivers and patches are upto
date.
I could just reinstall the image again but I want to find the fix if I can
Can anyone suggest anything I could try.
Thanks
