Mouse always busy !!

Can anyone tell me why Intellimouse is permanently showing busy in the
background, i.e. the pointer and an egg timer to its right hand side.

Open Task Manager. What applications are loading or running?
Should they be doing this? If malware or spyware is suspected,
then do the appropriate system scans.
