Assuming laser/LED - try using it on a darker color.

Also - assuming wireless - replace the batteries and bring the dongle (if it
has one) that connects to the computer closer and more line-of-sight with
the mouse.

Got any new devices lately? Update any drivers?

I wonder if a more patterned surface than "a piece of white paper" might
help...

Thanks for your answers.

I am using a white paper for a year and a half without problem. I change
the paper occasionaly.

I tried a dark more textured paper with no better result.

I bought the computer with the mouse a year ago or so.

It is wired to the tour with a wire.

It is a HP computer and mouse.

If I select text it slips lines then restart to select the folowing lines.

If I press harder on the mouse it seems to function better.

Maybe it is only that. Using a pen (Wacom) weakened my wrist . Ha ha.

I guess the mouse has gotten old and tired.

For a test, borrow a friend's mouse, or look in the bottom drawer of your
desk for a mouse that you forgot you had :)

If that works, get a new one. Some of them come in very nice colors (of
course that's true, but I'm only kidding).
