Mounting of floppy disk using WINDOWS XP

Hi!
Had compressed a 3½floppy disk using WINDOWS95. Need to
decompress (mount disk) using WINDOEWS XP but XP doesn't
have that function.
Please help?

You need to get the data off the disk on a Windows 95 PC and then transfer
it to your Windows XP machine.
Windows XP does not support DriveSpace/DoubleSpace compresses disks.

Is it necessary to use Win 95?
ME and earlier versions support compression on removable drives.

You can use any opertaing system that can read the disks and that you can
use to then transfer the data to the Windows XP machine

In order to allow you to get the files from the compressed disk, you will
have to have a bootable Win95 or Win98 disk. A bootable disk created with
WindowsXP format will not work for this.
This bootable disk must contain file called DRVSPACE.BIN that is normally
put there automatically when creating bootable disk with FORMAT /S or SYS.
To prepare this disk to open your compressed disk, add a file called
DRVSPACE.INI and insert the following line with simple text editor such as
NOTEPAD:

ActivateDrive=P,B0

Now re-boot on this diskette.

Once you are booted type B: and press return. You will be prompted to insert
diskette in drive B:. Remove your Bootable diskette and insert the diskette
with the compressed image. That's it.

The only problem now is where to copy the files. If your Hard disk is
formatted with FAT32 then you could now copy your files to anyplace on your
hard disk but if it is formatted with NTFS you will have a problem because
DOS does not know about NTFS. You could set aside a small partition that is
formatted with FAT32 or FAT just for this but then you would need to know
how to do it.
