motherboard problem

Hi i got a Jetway motherboard which is over 18months old, i bought a new 320
gig hdd but my computer only recongnized 131gig i was told on here that i
have to update my motherboard or something but i have no idea how to fix this
problem.. i just want my whole 320gig hardrive to work

any help is great thank you
 
Both your Bios and winxp needs to support large hd's
You would need to check as to whether your bios supports large hard disks.
Winxp needs to be updated to sp1/sp2 before it will format a disk larger
than 137gb

If you enter the bios, what size of disk is shown?

A lot of "older" motherboards require a BIOS update to support the
larger (greater than 128GB) hard drives. Several motherboard
manufacturers publish "bios updates" on their web site. Just locate
the Jetway web site and check for BIOS updates.

Also, to set up the new hard drive, you must not use the "first"
verison of XP (no service packs.) The "first" version of XP would not
be able to create / format hard drive greater than the 128Gb size.
 
You can of course use a 'first version' if you create a slipstreamed cd that
includes the latest sp
